The Live Between Hotel Experience

On a previous post, I wrote briefly about a few photomontage images i provided for a competition in which a team from my firm participated in.  The competion was the 6th annual Radical Innovation in Hospitality Design, and our submition was titled "Live Between".  All images courtesy of HKS Inc.

My team works for HKS Hill Glazier Studio (Daron Andrus, Dustin Siegrist, Regan Holton, Zachary Lamp, Alison Andrus, and Beau Eaton.

Here is the story of the Live Between Hotel Experience:

The Live Between Hotel Experience brings the destination to your city. Like circuses or traveling expositions of the past, this concept takes the idea of the traditionally stationary hotel and makes it mobile. Moving from city to city, landmark to monument, and allows guests to stay in places they've never stayed before.

Our illustrated example in this presentation was located in the city of Chicago, between two downtown towers (one of which is the famous John Hancock tower).

The Live Between Hotel arrives condensed and packed on a caravan of mysterious and beatiful semi-trucks that would parade through the city on its way to the final installation site. The semi's are clean, and polished as they are literally Act One of the Live Between event. When the trucks arrive, they hoist into place a gigantic veil that hides all processing behind the scenes until the final reveal when the curtain is opened.

A buzz begins to build in Chicago, as it is announced that the famous local band Smashing Pumpkins will play the first gig of their grand reunion tour at the unveiling of the Live Between event. During the last power chords of the Pumpkins show, a fog begins to emit from within the veil. The music dies out and suddenly the veil drops in silence. Nothing can be seen amidst the fog for several seconds, but slowly soft patterns of light and shadows begin to appear. After a few more seconds the dreamy glow of the Live Between guest pods are fully visible and crowds of people begin to clammor to be first to say they "Lived Between".

Suspended high above the city streets, the Live Between hotel livens the night sky like lanterns on a string. The hotel injects new life and use into under-utilized city buildings. Floors that were once vacant and without full occupancy now serve as bars, clubs, game rooms, and luxurious spas for the Live Between Hotel. Property owners, and Cival Servants, and Investors alike buzz with the thought of the new scheme to bring new life into their cities.

Just as its predecessors did, the Live Between hotel is obligated to travel on and continue it's course to new places.

Next stop London Tower Bridge, after that, the Pyramids of Giza. Maybe, and perhaps someday it will make a stop in your town.

Now, for something completly different!  I found a funny architecture website that had a great concept.  Some of our imagery seemed to work perfectly for them.  Architectural LOL cats.
